‘I’m hearing’ – Liverpool could include Florian Wirtz in sensational Real Madrid swap deal

Liverpool summer signing Florian Wirtz has failed to hit the ground running and there are now whispers linking him with an incredible Anfield exit.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for around £116million, which at the time was the British transfer record.

However, Alexander Isak broke the record again on deadline day, with the Reds splashing £125m on the Swedish striker.

Since his arrival, Wirtz has been heavily criticised for his lack of impact, with Arne Slot’s side struggling in the Premier League.

Liverpool have chance of securing Rodrygo deal

Liverpool have been linked with Real Madrid star Rodrygo in recent weeks, with the 24-year-old out of favour under Xabi Alonso.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Reds could agree a swap deal to sign the winger.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that, according to his sources, Liverpool are considering trading Wirtz for Rodrygo, after the German’s poor start to life on Merseyside.

However, Wyness added that Tottenham are still leading the race for the Brazilian international.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he’ll go to Spurs, but the whisper I got was a potential swap deal with Wirtz as part of it from Liverpool.

“Now, given the start that Wirtz has had, that isn’t beyond the realms of the imagination. I think he may fit better into the Real Madrid style of play and the La Liga style of play.

“I think that may be something that could have some currency in it. I didn’t dismiss it out of hand straight away.

“But I do think that Spurs will be the ones that end up paying the money to get him across from Real Madrid. I expect Spurs to push hard, but that Liverpool-Wirtz story did seem to make some sense to me.”

Tottenham eager to sign top-class winger

Football Insider has already revealed that Thomas Frank is eager to complete the signing of a top-class winger at Tottenham.

Sources say that the north London side are desperate to strengthen out wide, with a number of names on their shortlist.

Over the summer, Tottenham were linked with Rodrygo from Real Madrid, and according to Wyness, Frank’s side are leading the race for the Brazilian.

However, if Spurs are beaten to the signing of the 24-year-old by Liverpool, they may opt to pursue Everton star Iliman Ndiaye instead.
