‘I’m pleased to see him coming in’ – Rangers backed to complete Pierre Ekwah deal
Rangers should be looking to add more experience to their squad as they remain in pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Rangers’ interest in Saint-Etienne midfielder Pierre Ekwah.
Rangers’ 3-1 win at Celtic has put Danny Rohl’s side back in the hunt for the league title, with the Glasgow club coming from behind to beat their rivals.
Rohl is expected to bolster his squad in the January transfer window, and Ekwah could be one of the German’s first additions.
Pierre Ekwah could be ‘important’ Rangers signing
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Ekwah could fit in at Rangers under Rohl.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the Gers should get a deal for Ekwah completed.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, look, he’s a good player. He was at Sunderland, I think, before, and he’s got that experience.
“I think he could be a Danny Rohl type player that would come in because there is that French connection and the German connection. So, I think there is a chance that he’s a good quality player for Rohl to get hold of.
“And I’m pleased to see him coming in as well with a bit of experience, and not just relying on youth. So yes, I think that would be an important one for him to try and get across the line.”

Rangers dealt first transfer blow
Rangers were interested in taking Josh Windass on loan from Wrexham for the remainder of the season, but the 31-year-old looks set to remain in Wales.
Wrexham have no intention of letting Windass leave, in a first blow to Rohl in the January window, with the German now having to explore other targets.
Stig Inge Bjornebye’s appointment at Rangers may mean the club look closer at the Scandinavian market, in a bid to improve their squad.
