Kilmarnock midfield enforcer Youssouf Mulumbu has admitted it is an honour to be linked with a move to Rangers and Celtic but insists his focus is fully on Kilmarnock until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old has been tearing up the Scottish top-flight since arriving at Rugby Park in November and is available for free in the summer.
The Daily Mail has reported that Congolese midfielder there is interest from both Ibrox and Celtic Park when his Killie deal is up but admitted he doesn’t even know if there is any truth to the claims.
“I’m not going to lie to you, it’s an honour to have my name linked with those teams but I don’t even know if it’s rumours or if it’s true,” Mulumbu said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I’m proud of that. I don’t know if it’s true or not but I’m proud.
“I know that when you have some good games against the best teams in the league, Celtic or Rangers, people are going to start talking and saying ‘he’s going to go there’.
“But the best thing for me is to focus on Kilmarnock and with all the respect I have for the club I can’t be thinking about something else and some other team.”
With both sides set to be busy in the transfer market this summer a move to either could well happen after the former West Brom midfielder’s fantastic form for Killie.
Football Insider verdict:
Mulumbu has impressed since arriving in Scotland but he wouldn’t not the first to come up, make a good start and win a move to one half of the Old Firm before failing to deliver. A swoop for the 31-year-old wouldn’t be a great move for either side of the Old Firm and both would be better looking elsewhere. Mulumbu will no doubt earn a move somewhere in the summer but wherever it ends up being, it shouldn’t be Rangers or Celtic.
