‘I’m told’ – West Ham make new Axel Disasi transfer plan, Chelsea stance revealed

West Ham officials have been impressed by the performances of Axel Disasi since his move from Chelsea and could look to agree a permanent deal.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to life at the London Stadium and remains unbeaten after four appearances, having helped his side keep three clean sheets.

Nuno Espirito Santo is believed to have been impressed by his performances, as he has now established himself as a key part of the boss’ starting XI.

As a result, former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Irons could look to make Disasi‘s signing permanent from Chelsea this summer.

Any deal will depend on whether the Hammers stay up, but there is a growing feeling a deal can be agreed at a reasonable price as he is not part of Liam Rosenior’s plans.

West Ham plotting permanent move for Axel Disasi

Brown told Football Insider on 5 February that Disasi’s signing set off alarm bells at West Ham, with early concerns about his fitness and attitude made clear.

However, his increasingly impressive performances as part of Nuno’s side have dispelled any concerns and he has quickly become a favourite at the London Stadium.

Disasi has been very impressive so far for West Ham,” Brown told Football Insider.

“It’s one of the major benefits of the loan system, you get to see players in your own environment who you might otherwise have had doubts about signing permanently.

“He’s gone in there, it looks like he fits in well with what Nuno Espirito Santo is trying to do, and he’s been a big upgrade on their other options.

“Centre-back has been a problem position at West Ham for some time, and I’m told people at the club have been very impressed with his performances.

“Chelsea obviously don’t want him, they left him out of their plans, so they’ll be open to a permanent move at the end of the season.

“It looks like that’s something West Ham will be interested too, if they stay in the Premier League, he continues to impress, and if the price is right.”

How much are West Ham paying Chelsea for Disasi?

It was always expected Disasi would leave Chelsea in the January window, but West Ham took the deal right to the wire before confirming the loan agreement.

West Ham insider Sean Whetstone reported they will pay Chelsea a £1.68million loan fee for Disasi and cover his £80,000-per-week wages until the end of the season.

The total cost of their decision to cover his wages is around £1.8m, taking the overall cost of the deal to just under £3.5million for five months of football.

Any decision to make the move permanent would come at an addition cost, with the defender still under a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029.

While there is hope the fee would be reasonable after his exclusion from their squad, Chelsea are notorious for driving a hard bargain, even for their fringe players.
