‘I’m very surprised’ – Alexander Isak is ‘making Newcastle look very weak’ after transfer latest

Alexander Isak is making Newcastle United look “weak” following the latest updates surrounding his situation at St James’ Park.

The Sweden international has been integral for the north-east giants since making his club-record £63million move from Real Sociedad in 2022.

The 25-year-old registered 27 goals and six assists in 42 appearances last season, helping his side finish fifth in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.

Football Insider revealed on 28 July Liverpool are increasingly “confident” of signing Isak after making him a top target this summer.

Arne Slot’s side made an initial approach about the possibility of agreeing a deal for the striker two weeks ago.

Isak then told Newcastle he wanted to explore a move away from St James’ Park, with Liverpool his favoured destination despite interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The Swede has recently been training alone with Real Sociedad after being left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia.

Newcastle have ‘big’ Alexander Isak decision to make

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Liverpool have now seen a bid rejected by Newcastle for Isak.

The offer is believed to have been in the region of £110million plus add-ons despite the Tyneside club valuing their star forward at around £150million.

Speaking exclusively to Football InsiderBorson said: “They have got a big decision to make with Isak whether they just say, ‘you’re not going’.

“They don’t seem to be willing to do that at the moment. I mean, I’m very surprised that they’re not doing that.

“But they seem to be having the worst of all worlds, where he’s training at Sociedad. He’s making them look very weak in this negotiation.

“Liverpool are just sitting it out very relaxed, trying to see whether they can ship out Nunez.

“Napoli are now in funds with the €75million (£65.3million) that they’ve got from Osimhen, so maybe they get Napoli to make a move.

“It’s great for Liverpool and terrible for Newcastle.”

Brentford to reluctantly accept Newcastle’s improved Yoane Wissa bid

As they prepare for Isak’s potential exit this summer, Newcastle have set their sights on several potential alternatives.

Football Insider revealed on 2 August Brentford will reluctantly accept an offer from Newcastle for Yoane Wissa despite having rejected their initial £25million bid.

The clubs are not believed to be far apart in their valuations, and there is a growing belief the Bess will accept offers if they can identify his replacement.

It comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 July Brentford could demand £50million for Wissa as they intended to price clubs out of the deal before the forward made it clear he wants to leave.
