‘In love with him’ – Aston Villa fans amazed as ‘outrageous’ Emiliano Martinez footage emerges from 0-0 draw against Everton
Aston Villa fans were in awe of Emi Martinez’s “outrageous” double save against Everton on Sunday afternoon (14 January).
Goodison Park was the setting of the goalless clash with neither side having the cutting edge to claim all three points.
While Villa were fighting to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the league, the Toffees looked to extend their gap from the relegation zone.
However, the afternoon could have been even worse for the travelling Villa faithful if their World Cup-winning ace in between the sticks did not pull off a stunning succession of saves in the 45th minute.
The latest Sky Sports footage showed Dominic Calvert-Lewin bound towards the Argentine one-on-one, but Martinez pulled off a huge stop – very similar to his save from Randal Kolo Muani’s strike in the closing seconds World Cup final.
Just moments later, he was very quick to get to the ground to stop James Garner’s inside-the-box effort to keep the game level.
Martinez has frequently been deemed the Premier League’s, and the world’s, best shot-stoppers and his antics in Merseyside only serve to prove this.
While supporters were frustrated not to beat the struggling Toffees, they have taken to social media to hail Martinez.
