Ings a 'huge miss' for Aston Villa after injury expert's update - Hutton
Danny Ings is a “huge miss” for Aston Villa ahead of Friday’s clash with Southampton, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old brings valuable experience and quality to Dean Smith’s side.
Football Insider injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs specialist site Premier Injuries, has attributed Ings’ absence to Covid-19.
As quoted by the Birmingham Mail, manager Smith admitted the Villans have had some “Covid-related issues” as well as injury problems.
Ings had started Villa’s opening nine league games but missed the 4-1 defeat to West Ham.
Hutton insisted the summer signing had already established himself as a popular figure at Villa Park.

He suggested the rest of the squad would miss his presence against Southampton.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think he was ill. He is a new player but he’s well-liked within the squad.
“People look up to him, they obviously trust him and he can give you that little bit of magic. A little bit of brilliance just off the cuff, something can happen.
“If he puts a goal in, it sparks the rest of the team into life. I think Ings and Watkins are still trying to figure each other out.
“They’re still trying to get used to each other’s games and playing with each other. I think that will take time.
“Of course he’s a huge miss. You want him on the pitch, playing as much as possible with his experience and his know-how.
“Hopefully it was just that one game that he’ll miss and he’ll come back Friday.”
Ings has scored three goals in nine games for Villa so far.
