Hayes out for season: Injury can help criticised Celtic star make position his own

The recent season-ending injury suffered by Jonny Hayes may be a blow to both the player and Celtic, but in a way it could help Scott Sinclair.

The 28-year-old Scottish Premiership player of the season hasn’t had the best of seasons despite the stats saying otherwise.

He may have scored 15 goals so far but his all-round play has been lacking, this was most recently shown in the 4-0 loss to Hearts which ended Celtic’s unbeaten domestic run leading to a torrent of criticism.

However, with Hayes joining fellow winger Patrick Roberts on the long-term injury list, Sinclair has a free-run at making the right-wing position his own.

With James Forrest in player of the year candidate form on the other wing, there was little chance of him being dropped, but with Sinclair’s at times indifferent form there was a chance his place in the side could have come under threat.

Now with Hayes out for the season and Roberts out until March, Celtic star Sinclair can perhaps start to play with the confidence of knowing that he will more than likely be guaranteed a place in the starting line-up for the foreseeable future.

The Hoops supporters will be hoping that Sinclair takes this confidence into the upcoming Old Firm derby against Rangers, a team that he has a good record against, scoring four goals against them last season.
