Injury expert: Mendy could be omitted from Chelsea XI v Man City after 'very painful' update
Thomas Tuchel won’t risk Chelsea stopper Edouard Mendy against Manchester City if he isn’t 100% fit.
That is according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine as well as data analysis.
Mendy, who signed for £22m last year, picked up a knock against Zenit in the Champions League and has missed the Blues’ last two games.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has started both games with Chelsea beating Tottenham 3-0 and beating Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.
Dinnery expects Tuchel won’t take any chances with Mendy despite the enormity of this weekend’s game.
“The report says it was a late, heavy whack,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“So it’s another impact injury around the hip. That causes complications for a goalkeeper who will be diving on the ground.
“There will be that impact he is diving around. Tuchel also has the world’s most expensive goalkeeper available to him.
“When you talk about managing the squad, Tuchel made a great decision in resting Mendy this week.
“It was the right decision. With an impact injury, it will be a case of pain management.
“It will have been very painful when it first happened and one you don’t want to take a risk with.
“If Kepa hadn’t been available then Mendy could have played. But for this weekend, if he isn’t 100%, why take any chances?“
Chelsea are unbeaten in the Premier League this season.
They sit three points ahead of Man City ahead of this weekend’s clash.
