Injury expert suggests Mina ‘setback’ twist at Everton after what he ‘twice’ spotted
Yerry Mina may have suffered another hamstring injury at Everton despite Rafael Benitez’s comments about a calf problem.
That is according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries website and has a background in medicine and data analysis.
Mina was substituted off just after the half-hour mark in the Toffees’ 2-1 win over Arsenal on Monday (6 December), having recently returned from a hamstring injury.
As quoted by Dinnery after the game, Benitez stated it was a “problem with his calf” that forced the defender off.
However, Mina was pictured rubbing his hamstring on no fewer than two separate occasions feeling his hamstring.
As such, Dinnery has suggested he could have suffered a “setback”, rather than a new injury.
Dinner told Football Insider’s Russell Edge; “I certainly think performances on the pitch and results were a major influence and factor in terms of throwing Yerry Mina straight back in there.
“We do know that fatigue is a major influence and factor in the cause of hamstring injuries.
“Loading hamstrings under fatigue, then there’s the possibility of suffering a setback. This is relevant for calf injuries too.
“Now, I say hamstring because there may be some indication, although Rafa did reference the calf, I saw Yerry Mina, on two separate occasions, rubbing his hamstring.
“It could possibly be the hamstring and maybe not the calf. We wait for an official word on that.”
Mina missed six Premier League games as a result of his hamstring problem.
He has played a total of seven times this season.
Mason Holgate came off the bench to replace the Colombia international against Arsenal.
Benitez also has Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey to call upon at centre-back.
