Insider: Etete likely to leave Tottenham in 2022 after dazzling at Northampton
Tottenham youngster Kion Etete could return to Northampton on loan next season if they get promoted into League One.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Etete, 19, has scored in Northampton’s last two league games after initially struggling after joining the club in the summer.
The six-foot-six-inch striker impressed in Spurs’ youth ranks last season, scoring nine Premier League 2 goals in 21 games.
Wenham has been impressed by Etete’s development and shrugged off questions over his mobility.
“Kion was picked up from Notts County as a 17-year-old,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I’ll be honest with you, during his first year it looked like he was at the level he was purely because of his size.
“In academy football, you see a lot of players have an advantage because of their physicality or size.
“I got the impression that was the case with Kion. However, in his second season his numbers were very good.
“He stepped up to the Under 23s and scored some goals. His movement really impressed me.
“That told me he was definitely ready for a loan move and he went to Northampton.
“He scored two goals in the cup as they knocked out Coventry but struggled to get the ball in the net in the league.
“He’s then impressed and scored at the weekend and scored the week before.

“Northampton are now third in the table and I am keeping a close eye on them.
“Just because if they go up, we could loan him back to Northampton when they are in League One and that would be the next step in his development.”
