Insider ‘expects’ Austin and Tottenham teammate to complete January transfers
Brandon Austin’s inclusion on the Tottenham bench against Liverpool could be a hint over the club’s plan for Alfie Whiteman.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Austin, 22, was named on the Tottenham bench for last Sunday’s (19 December) 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
Last week (16 December) Wenham claimed Tottenham will look to loan out either Austin or Whiteman during January.
Whiteman returned to Spurs last week following the completion of his loan at Degerfors.
Wenham insists either goalkeeper could still go out on loan in January.
“I would guess Austin was on the bench because he has been around the first team all season,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Naturally, he is ahead in the pecking order because of the relationship he will have with Conte.
“I said last week, I expect one of the two goalkeepers will go out on loan in January.
“Was the selection of Austin yesterday a hint that Whiteman could go back out? Possibly.
“You can’t rule it out but I could equally see Austin going out and getting some regular football.
“Gollini missed out yesterday, presumably for Covid reasons so it was another opportunity for Austin to have that experience of being there on a matchday.”

Whiteman made 13 straight league appearances while on loan in Sweden.
Wenham told Football Insider (16 December) he heard rave reviews about Whiteman’s time away from Spurs.
In other news, an Insider has told Football Insider how Tottenham are working on a deal to sign “unbelievable” player in January.
