Insider hails great news as Tottenham handed pre-Leicester boost today

A depleted Tottenham squad’s return to training today is great news after a difficult week.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Monday morning (13 December) Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick Tottenham will train with a depleted squad ahead of Hotspur Way potentially fully reopening its doors on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This came after the Daily Mail revealed on Sunday (12 December) that Antonio Conte and some players have returned to first-team training after a recent covid outbreak.

Wenham is delighted by this development but admitted he remains cautious about which players will be available for Thursday (16 December) clash with Leicester.

“So it looks like a depleted squad is returning today,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was said on Sunday that we were hard at it doing back to back sessions ahead of a busy week.

“The indications are that our game against Leicester will go ahead. Spurs don’t want this mass backlog of fixtures.

“So all of this is extremely positive in my opinion. The last week or so has been really difficult.

“We saw that with Conte’s press conference, he was visibly upset by the situation.

“I’m sure he’s glad to be back on the training ground. Hopefully, the game can go ahead and we can field a decent side.

“Obviously details will emerge this week of who is available.”

Tottenham have been suffering through a covid crisis in the last week.

Recent games against Rennes and Brighton were postponed as a result.
