Insider: ‘Huge credit to Paratici’ for Tottenham signing ‘best in the world’ star amid Romero latest

Tottenham must build their side around Cristian Romero after impressing with a string of “outstanding” performances.

He has also impressed on international duty with Argentina and was the subject of incredible praise from boss Lionel Scaloni.

Scaloni is quoted by La Nacion (14 October) as saying Romero is “one of the best in the world in his position”.

Wenham was not surprised to hear this praise and paid tribute to Fabio Paratici for pulling off Romero’s capture.

“He went away and kept three clean sheets so it’s no surprise to hear that praise,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I would say he was beaten too easily for Newcastle’s opening goal. However, I think that was mainly down to Callum Wilson’s incredible movement.

“After that, he recovered very well. He is someone I want to see Tottenham build around.

“I believe he is one of those outstanding centre halves. He just needs the game time to prove it.

“He’s already doing it for Argentina so now it’s about doing it in the Premier League.

“Huge credit needs to go to Paratici and the recruitment team for getting Romero, he will be outstanding.”
