Insider issues Erling Haaland verdict after Man City source's unexpected medical reveal

Ben Dinnery has praised Man City for sending a member of their medical team with Erling Haaland while he was on international duty with Norway.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the medical expert, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, insisted it is vital City manage his load and recovery.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this week (29 September) that the club are minutely planning Haaland’s training to avoid a repeat of the injuries he suffered in his final season at Borussia Dortmund.

That includes sports therapist Mario Pafundi to monitor the 22-year-old while he went away to represent Norway this month.

“This is all about player management,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Firstly in terms of managing his load. The national team will have a good understanding of where players are in terms of how they are training and how they are working at a domestic level.

“Having somebody else there to support them and help them transition across, looking at those load management issues and those recovery problems.

“Let’s not forget, national teams are only working with these players for a small percentage of time whereas clubs are focusing on these players day in, day out.

“This is not a ‘Them and us’ scenario. They all want the same. If Haaland is fit and playing well for City, then the national team is going to reap the rewards for that as well.

“Everybody will be signing from the same hymn sheet. They all need a fully fit Haaland so any support, any additional advice, insight or guidance that can be gleaned from working day in, day out with him at City will be welcomed by the national team staff.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Man City “master plan” has emerged as a £175million Brazilian deal is all but done.
