Insider issues ‘huge’ Nuno claim after major Tottenham development

The Tottenham team that started against West Ham on Sunday let Nuno Espirito Santo down after he placed his trust in them.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham fells to a 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they lost their fourth London derby of the season.

Michail Antonio’s goal condemned Tottenham to a second defeat in four days after they fell to Vitesse on Thursday.

None of the players who started against West Ham even travelled to Belgium for that Europa Conference League clash.

Wenham was left baffled by how Spurs “got worse” as the game went on considering Tottenham’s team should have been fitter than West Ham’s, who also had a midweek game.

“It’s a huge negative for Nuno,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He rested his entire first 11 and made it very clear he was going to start, I actually agreed with that but the plan failed.

“My hope was that as the game wore on we would see our fitness levels improve but if anything we got worse.

“That team didn’t play a midweek game. West Ham did and they looked fitter.

“That’s really worrying for Nuno. We had a decent spell before half time and maybe should have scored.

“After that, we failed to have a shot on goal in the second half.

It turned about to be a very disappointing day for everyone at the club.

“But it was especially disappointing for Nuno.

“He placed trust in his players and they really let him down.
