Insider: Sanchez set for key Tottenham role after ‘huge blow’

Davinson Sanchez can expect more game time at Tottenham following his impressive outing against Norwich.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Sanchez, 25, scored Tottenham’s second as his side cruised to a 3-0 win over Norwich on 5 December.

This came after he was heavily criticised for his performance against NS Mura on 25 November.

The defender was at fault for both of the Slovenian side’s goals and was ridiculed on social media.

Wenham was delighted to see Sanchez return to form and tipped him to be handed even more game time over the coming months.

“Huge credit to Davinson Sanchez,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He did well against Norwich and managed to grab himself a goal as well.

“It’s been a massive turnaround for him since that Mura game. I think one thing we know about Conte’s management is you will get a second chance.

“We have seen that with Ben Davies as well as with Ryan Sessegnon.

“I’m not getting carried away about Sanchez, it was only Norwich.

“That being said, I thought he played really well and hopefully we can see more from him as the weeks go on.

“He will have plenty of game time with Romero being injured and I just hope he can continue to improve.”

On 1 December, journalist Jonathan Veal quoted Antonio Conte as saying Cristian Romero, 23, may not play again until February.

Wenham has previously called the defender’s injury a “huge blow” to Spurs.

In other news, an insider has backed Tottenham to wrap up a double deal involving one youth star this January.
