Insider: Tottenham may have already agreed Markanday deal after Twitter clue
Tottenham may have already agreed a new contract with Dilan Markanday after he made his senior debut for the club.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Markanday, 20, made his senior Tottenham debut during last week’s 1-0 loss to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.
In January, Spurs announced the attacker, who has scored eight goals in eight Premier League 2 outings this season, has a deal that expires in the summer of 2022.
Wenham predicts Tottenham could shortly announce new terms for Markanday based on the club’s social media posts.
“The only positive to come from the Vitesse game was the brilliant Dilan Markanday getting on the pitch,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I get the impression from Tottenham’s social media presence that he might be offered a new contract soon.
“I don’t know anything for sure but from their media posts and what he’s been posting in response to that, I think we could hear some contract news.
“Last year there was an announcement that his contract runs until 2022.
“That will be the 30th of June of next year. That means he could sign a pre-contract with someone in January.
“That’s not too far away but because there is no real speculation about a move, I assume Tottenham have a ‘plus one-year’ option on the deal.
“They need to give him something longer than that anyway.

“I would imagine Tottenham are confident of getting a deal done or already have something signed.
“They are doing a lot of promoting him on social media and clubs don’t tend to do that if the player is at risk of leaving.”
