Ipswich Town recruitment experts head out to watch Wigan star Joe Taylor vs Reading
Ipswich Town and Stoke City are among a number of Championship clubs tracking the progress of Joe Taylor at Wigan, sources have told Football Insider.
A host of sides are set to cast an eye over the 23-year-old in Saturday’s game between Wigan and Reading, with Championship sides not in action.
Taylor has been in red-hot form since joining Wigan on loan in the January transfer window and could be available again when he returns to Huddersfield in the summer.
The pacy striker has netted nine goals in 13 League One appearances for the Latics and is already their top scorer, while he boasts one of the best goals per 90 ratios in England.
Taylor is under contract at Huddersfield until 2029, having arrived from Luton Town last summer, but could be allowed to move on as he is not part of their plans.
Ipswich Town and Stoke City race to sign Joe Taylor
Football Insider exclusively revealed in January that Taylor was set to join Wigan on loan, and he has since attracted interest from a number of clubs with his outstanding form.
His arrival at Wigan has handed them a huge boost in their bid for survival, after he scored in last weekend’s 2-0 win against Exeter City to move them three points clear.

The striker also boasts excellent goalscoring records from his spells at Lincoln City and Colchester United, where he scored 10 goals in 19 games and 12 in 27 respectively.
His recent showings have attracted Championship clubs to keep tabs on his displays, amid a growing feeling he could be ready to make the step up.
Promotion-chasers Ipswich are the most high-profile side watching his displays as they remain keen to land a new striker regardless of their Championship status.
Ipswich set sights on signing new striker
Taylor’s performances for Wigan have placed him firmly on Ipswich’s radar, but he is not the only striker they are considering ahead of the summer transfer window.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Ipswich want to sign Tottenham’s Will Lankshear, who has spent the season on loan at Oxford United.

Ipswich made an approach to Spurs about Lankshear’s availability during the January transfer window, but they opted to leave him on loan at Oxford.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough had lined up a loan-to-buy deal worth in the region of £15million, with the striker attracting plenty of high-profile attention.
Regardless of whether the Tractor Boys achieve promotion this season, they are expected to revive their interest in the Tottenham striker this summer.
