Ipswich Town star Sammie Szmodics reacts to Liam Delap’s Chelsea message

Ipswich Town midfielder Sammie Szmodics has reacted to a message shared by Chelsea new boy Liam Delap.

Before joining the Stamford Bridge club, Delap was the star man for Ipswich, scoring 12 Premier League goals, even though Kieran McKenna’s men suffered immediate relegation back to the Championship.

Ireland international Szmodics enjoyed a less fruitful campaign than the striker, scoring just four goals in an injury-hit season.

The former Blackburn Rovers man will hope to produce the goods for Ipswich at Championship level, and won the golden boot last time he was a second-tier player.

Enzo Maresca’s side will enjoy Delap’s services at the Club World Cup, as the striker will not feature for England in this summer’s Under-21 Euros.

The 22-year-old shared footage of himself at Stamford Bridge on Instagram on Monday, 9 June, captioned: “First moments with Chelsea.”

Delap’s post attracted a like from former Ipswich teammate Szmodics.

Christopher Nkunku is set for Chelsea exit

Chelsea’s successful swoop for Delap has demonstrated Maresca’s appetite to reshape his forward line at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The West London club will hope that the former Manchester City youngster can benefit from the services of the likes of Cole Palmer and prove to be even more clinical in front of goal in West London than he was for Ipswich.

But while the Blues have successfully acquired Delap, fellow attacker Christopher Nkunku could be set to leave Chelsea, despite notching 14 goals in 42 appearances this season.

The France international proved particularly clinical in the Conference League, scoring seven goals in 11 outings in the European competition.

However, Newcastle United want to sign Nkunku, which could spell the end of his Stamford Bridge spell, after scoring a total of 17 goals in 56 appearances for the West London side.

Chelsea could also part company with Noni Madueke, amid their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.
