Isaac Hayden: FA has ‘close eye’ on players after Newcastle United development – ex-Premier League referee
Keith Hackett has claimed the FA has “a close eye” on players’ social media activity after Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden was charged.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League and Fifa official urged players “to be careful” as the FA will “take action” when something is questioned in the public domain.
Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea on 13 March was clouded by controversy because of decisions not taken by referee David Coote and VAR official John Brooks.
The duo opted against awarding Jacob Murphy a penalty and sending Kai Havertz off for an elbow on Dan Burn, much to the dismay of the Magpies.
Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden, 26, reacted angrily to the officials performance and voiced his dissatisfaction on Twitter after the match (13 March).
As per the Daily Mail‘s Craig Hope (21 March), Hayden has since been charged with ‘attacking the integrity of a match official’ by the FA.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to the news, Hackett said: “I’m not surprised that he has been charged.
“The FA are taking a close watching brief on how players behave on social media. They’ve got a close eye on it. They are mindful of abuse generally.

“Players have to be careful what they say.
“As soon as it comes into the public domain and is being questioned… You can expect the FA to take action, as they did with Hayden.”
