Isak stuns Van Dijk after Newcastle star draws ‘wow’ reaction vs Liverpool

Alexander Isak stunned Clinton Morrison as the Newcastle forward showcased his skill by effortlessly dribbling past Virgil van Dijk.

The incident happened 15 minutes into the game when the Liverpool defender was beaten as the Magpies were on the counter attack, before sending a cross into the box where it was cleared by Joe Gomez.

The Dutch star is so rarely beaten by opposition attackers that it left Morrison wowed by what he was seeing.

He said on Sky Sports Soccer Special (7.47pm): “Wow. I’ve just seen Isak go past Van Dijk like he wasn’t there. That doesn’t usually happen.

“Good cross into the box [but] good defending from Gomez.”

The Swede later gained half a yard on Van Dijk yet again 35 minutes into the fixture and capitalised with a fantastic strike 25 yards out that flashed past Caoimhin Kelleher, giving the Magpies a 1-0 lead. The sensational shot had power, swerve and dip leaving the Merseyside club’s goalkeeper helpless.

Alexander Isak is vital for Eddie Howe at Newcastle.

This season, he has already scored five times in 13 league games, showing his ability to adapt and thrive under pressure.

What sets Isak apart is his versatility as a forward. He combines pace, technical skill, and a poacher’s instinct to consistently find himself in the right place at the right time.

His ability to glide past defenders, as seen in this duel against Van Dijk, highlights his agility and fearlessness.

Additionally, the strikers work rate off the ball and his capacity to link up play make him more than just a goal-scorer; he’s a complete forward.
