Isidor exclusive: Special incident report risk after Sunderland v Middlesbrough
Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor was “unwise” with his post-match celebration after his side’s win at Middlesbrough, Keith Hackett has said.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that referee Steve Martin may file a special incident report over what happened.
Isidor joined the Black Cats on loan from Zenit St Petersburg back in the summer, before making his move permanent in the recent January transfer window.
The Sunderland striker has already been at the centre of other controversy since arriving at the club, and Hackett has suggested he could soon be under scrutiny again.
Wilson Isidor Sunderland celebration analysed after Middlesbrough win
Isidor continued his fine form for Regis Le Bris’ side in their win over ‘Boro on Monday night (3 February), again getting on the scoresheet in a 3-2 win at the Riverside Stadium.
Sunderland secured the victory after a Ryan Giles own goal with just three minutes of normal time remaining.
After the full-time whistle had gone, Isidor was seen placing his shirt on one of the Middlesbrough corner flags, and waving it over his head in view of both sets of supporters.
Hackett has now suggested that the striker should not have done what he did, and would have been punished for doing so during the match.
Speaking to Football Insider about the Sunderland star’s celebration, the former referee said:
“It is an unwise action potentially creating a security issue with home fans and potential crowd surge. I suggest that he receives some operational advice from his manager.
“If he did this during playing time to celebrate a goal he would certainly receive a yellow card. This action, if viewed by the referee post-match, may well be in a special incident report. Watch this space.”

Following that win, Sunderland are fourth in the Championship table, three points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
With deadline day signing Jayden Danns already set to return to Liverpool to recover from a back injury, they will be desperate for Isidor to remain in-form and available in the promotion race.
In other news, a deadline day deal for Tommy Watson to move to Brighton from Sunderland fell through.
