Ismaila Soro could lead Celtic exodus after transfer report – expert

Frank McAvennie has urged Celtic to get Ismaila Soro “off the wage bill” this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker is adamant that the club will offload several players this transfer window.

According to Football Scotland (22 June) Soro is set to leave Parkhead on loan this summer with Serbian side Partizan Belgrade leading the race for his signature.

The Ivorian joined Celtic in 2020 from Israeli side Bnei Yehudah and put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The midfielder fell out of favour with last season and it appears the 24-year-old will not be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for next season.

When asked if Celtic should be looking to secure a move away for Soro, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think that’s the ideal situation.

“Sometimes teams don’t want players and so offloading them gets them off the wage bill.

“He’s been there for a while, he’s had a lot of chances and he’s not taken them.

“He likes a tackle but he gets himself booked very easily and he’s liable to get sent off. So you need to get someone in there that can control the game.

“I think there will be a few players going out before the season starts. A few fringe players that aren’t getting a game, you’ve got to let them go.”

Soro made just 19 appearances for the club across all competitions last season, without a goal contribution.

His prospective club for next season Partizan Belgrade have finished second in the Serbian Super League for the last three consecutive seasons.
