Rangers would still be able to pick up a decent transfer fee even if they sold Alfredo Morelos for a cut-price deal this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes Steven Gerrard could still get £15million for the Colombian despite an uncertain situation regarding the summer transfer window.

As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Light Blues are set to slash the price on Morelos’ head after seeing their hopes of a £25-30million deal go up in smoke.

It is understood the Glasgow giants will have to cut their demands by as much as half in the summer, just months after rebuffing a £25million move from Inter Milan in the January window.

Hutton believes that the Coronavirus pandemic has thrown everyone’s plans into the air but that there is still a decent fee waiting for the Gers when summer comes around.

Hutton told Football Insider: “It does seem low at the moment, especially with the figures that have been bandied about previously but that being said, with all the stuff going on with the virus, football’s changing.

“Staff getting furloughed, stuff with the transfer window – we don’t know when it’s going to be, how long’s it going to be open – so there’s a whole lot of issues up in the air.

“From a Rangers view, I think they’ll still be looking to get as much money as possible, Yes, his form has dipped but I think we all know that within himself there’s a great player who scores goals, no matter the competition his plays in.

“They’ll obviously be wanting a high value but they’ll have to go along with the situation we’re in. To get £12-15million, that’s still a lot of money and that can go a long way to securing other players to make the squad even stronger.”

Morelos has scored 29 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions, although he has had a dip in form since the winter break, netting just once.

He has a total of 77 strikes under his belt for the club, with 30 of those coming last season.
