Michael Brown insists that “it doesn’t get better” than having Leeds United visit Liverpool for the opening day of the Premier League season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds midfielder suggested that it was an absolute guarantee that the game would be one of the matches picked for broadcast in the UK from the first weekend of the campaign.

Leeds confirmed last week that their first game back in the Premier League would see them visit Anfield for a clash between the reigning champions of the top two divisions of English football.

Brown has been left purring over the prospect of Marcelo Bielsa’s men taking on Jurgen Klopp and his side and insists it is the perfect start to welcome Leeds back to the top flight.

Brown told Football Insider: “I was actually speaking to a Liverpool fan and he was talking about the opening day and I said they’ve not done the TV pitch yet, they’re just looking to see what games and I said it doesn’t get better than that for the TV pick, does it?

“To finally be back, going to the champions, that’s it, it doesn’t get better than that for the start that they’ll all be looking forward to. What a game, what a story for Leeds United and hopefully it gets the coverage it deserves.”

Leeds’ first home game will see them play host to fellow promoted side Fulham.

Their next two games at Elland Road will see last season’s runners-up Manchester City and European hopefuls Wolves visit West Yorkshire.
