‘It shouldn’t be allowed’ – Keith Wyness hits out at officials as Man City caught up in ‘financial mess’

Barcelona are in a financial mess and it is directly impacting Manchester City due to a transfer that took place four years ago.

Pep Guardiola’s side have had issues of their own recently, fighting against the Premier League on various fronts.

Man City recently came to a settlement with the league regarding Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which will allow them to agree bigger sponsorship deals.

However, they are still yet to find out the outcome of their 115 charges case against the Premier League.

Man City owed money by Barcelona

Man City are yet to receive all of their money for Ferran Torres despite selling him to Barcelona almost four years ago.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that this shouldn’t be allowed and that City could make a complaint to FIFA.

However, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Guardiola’s side are not actually out of pocket, as the bank has taken on the debt.

Wyness added that Barcelona are in a financial mess, and keep utilising these short-term fixes.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It shouldn’t be allowed and clubs could make complaints to FIFA and raise proceedings.

“But what’s happened in these cases is that the money’s been factored. So the clubs in question are not actually owed the money. It is the bank that is owed the money and so it is up to Barcelona to go to the bank and say, look, we’d like to postpone the payment of these fees.

“Barcelona are racking up big interest rates on these sorts of things. And it does seem that they’re really in a bit of a financial mess still. They’re having to keep on moving the musical chairs at the moment, and they’ve got to come to a longer-term solution.”

Guardiola’s side have been after the 16-year-old for a number of months, but have so far failed to get a deal over the line.

Now, sources say that their rivals Manchester United have joined the race for the Leicester man.

Monga is the latest young star on the Red Devils’ radar as they continue plans to build their squad for the future.
