‘It shows that Rangers are a big club’ – Exclusive: Danny Mills dazzled by ‘long-term’ deal
Danny Mills insisted businesses will always seek partnerships with “top clubs” after Rangers secured a lucrative new kit deal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Manchester City right-back claimed the off-pitch agreement showed that the Gers are still a big club.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Gers have agreed a new club-record kit deal with sportswear brand Castore worth £20million over a five-year period.
The UK-based company, in which Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is a shareholder, will take over from Hummel as Steven Gerrard’s sides’ kit provider from next season.
The current Hummel and Elite deal, which was due to expire in 2021, will be terminated a year early.
When asked by Football Insider how timely the deal was given the current financial uncertainty in football, Mills said: “It will be a long-term deal.
“It shows that Rangers are still a big club. They will come around again.
“Puma are striking a deal with Raheem Sterling at the moment. People are still going to want to be associated with top clubs and good people. That is not going to change anytime soon, at least I do not see it changing.
“Businesses will still have to make plans for the foreseeable future.”
However, Old Firm rivals Celtic claim the five-year deal they signed with Adidas in March is the biggest kit sponsorship ever to be announced across Scottish sport.
Sky Sports claim Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling is close to agreeing a record-breaking £100million deal to become the face of Puma.
