‘It will be a very big deal’ – Tottenham close in on ‘amazing’ Savinho signing

Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Man City winger Savinho and are pushing to agree the deal before the transfer window closes.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that Thomas Frank is eyeing the 21-year-old as a statement signing as he looks to improve his squad in the coming days.

The winger has had limited opportunities during his season at the Etihad and is keen to make a move to a club where he would play more regular football.

This comes after former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Savinho wants to join Tottenham and is hopeful of being allowed to leave Man City.

The Brazil international is believed to have grown frustrated by his inconsistent role in Pep Guardiola’s team and has invited the opportunity to discuss a move.

Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Tottenham’s talks to sign Savinho are advancing with optimism that an agreement will soon be reached.

Tottenham step up Savinho chase after James Maddison injury

This article contains exclusive comment from Paul Robinson, a football pundit and former England, Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper.

Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that Tottenham are accelerating their transfer plans in a bid to replace James Maddison after his “awful” injury.

Frank’s side have been forced to step up their interest in new forwards by the injury blow, having initially planned to prioritise other areas of the squad.

Robinson explained that Savinho would be a “fantastic” addition to the side who would be an ideal fit for the way the new boss wants to play.

Definitely [it’s a deal that works for all parties],” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a very, very good player who would fit into this system.

“Thomas Frank is buying players who can be very versatile and play in a number of positions, and Savinho is exactly that sort of player.

“He can play wide left, wide right, and occupy the number ten role.

“Spurs are pushing to bring him in and if they can pull this off, it will be a very big deal.

“With the injury to Maddison it’s looking like he’s going to be out for a long time, it’s not an area Spurs were looking to recruit as much as they’re going to have to.

“Savinho would be an amazing addition.

“He had limited opportunities at Man City and wasn’t a regular starter there, but he will be a statement signing for Tottenham similar to what Kudus was.”

Spurs lead Arsenal in race to sign Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze

Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Tottenham are leading the race to sign Eze despite competition from Arsenal following Maddison’s injury.

Spurs have been long-term admirers of the England star, having been linked with moves for his signature over the last couple of years, and could finally make a move.

However, Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Crystal Palace are reluctant to lose Eze and will stand firm on their demand that clubs pay his £68million release clause.
