‘It’s a sad end’ – Mark Goldbridge reacts to Man United exit developments after ‘absolutely horrific’ issue
Andre Onana is nearing the Manchester United exit door following recent transfer developments and Mark Goldbridge believes the goalkeeper must depart.
Onana picked up an injury during Man United’s pre-season which kept him out of the club’s tour of America and Ruben Amorim has preferred Altay Bayindir over the 29-year-old this season.
Man United have signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, to further push Onana towards an Old Trafford departure.
The Cameroon international joined Man United from Inter Milan in 2023, though costly errors have plagued his time at the club.

Andre Onana’s time has come after Grimsby nightmare
Onana looks set to join Trabzonspor in Turkey on a season-long loan after a verbal agreement was reached between the club’s.
Speaking on The United Stand XTRA [6 September], Goldbridge reacted to the news stating it is the right decision for Onana to leave after he endured a “horrific” match against Grimsby.
“I think Onana just has to go, if you had any reservations that Grimsby game was just absolutely horrific, Goldbridge said.
“Not just the two goals conceded where he was absolutely shocking on both, but the penalty shootout where a bag of potatoes would have had a better chance of saving one. He was absolutely horrific.
“Look I know this to be true, he is a popular person around the club, he’s very close to people like Mbeumo obviously because they’re national team teammates and he is a popular player in the club.
“Amorim doesn’t dislike Onana it’s just like liking someone and then saying you’re not good enough to start in my team.
“It’s sad end for Onana at United because that Grimsby game will be his last game.”
Man United were knocked out of the League Cup by fourth tier Grimsby after the match went to a penalty shootout which the Red Devils lost 12-11.

Senne Lammens to take Andre Onana position
Football Insider Verdict
With the arrival of Lammens, it looks like another changing of the guard in goal is in the offing at Old Trafford.
Onana arrived with high praise following his time at Inter Milan, and many believed his ability on the ball would help develop Man United’s playing out from the back approach.
After the departure of David de Gea, Onana was supposed to usher in the new possession based approach.
Andre Onana | Stats |
Appearances | 102 |
Goals Conceded | 150 |
Clean Sheets | 24 |
However, Onana has often proved to be a hinderance at the back and patience has run out at the club, with a new number one required.
Bayindir’s weakness from set-pieces means the 27-year-old cannot be the answer to Amorim’s problems in goal and Lammens will now compete with the Turkish international for the number one spot.
