‘It’s absolutely true’ – Sir Jim Ratcliffe left reeling as Man United in ‘even bigger mess’

Man United’s lack of experience at the top of the club is costing them dearly following the sacking of manager Ruben Amorim.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes there are “more questions than answers” at Old Trafford right now.

Amorim was sacked as Man United manager following a 1-1 draw at Leeds where his post-match comments signalled a fallout with the club’s hierarchy.

The 40-year-old had been under pressure after leading Man United to a 15th-placed finish last season, and with the Red Devils outside the Champions League spots when he departed.

Ruben Amorim ‘holding back’ Man United

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes a lack of experience from owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe down is hurting Man United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness is unsure what is going to happen next at the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They’ve got to close ranks and push the team forward, which either they believe Amorim was holding them back, and therefore, there’s now a chance to move things forward and get cohesion again.

“Or they’re going to accept that they’ve got the wrong squad again, and that’s an even bigger mess. And we’re back to, as we discussed for many weeks, the cost of the players, they’ve got to get off the balance sheet again. And it’s so hard to see what’s going to happen. But they’ve opened more questions than answers right now.

“And as I say, it seems to be a ship afloat with people who are the captains of the ship, not really that experienced, and that goes all the way back up to Ratcliffe. So I’m afraid all that we’ve said over the last year or so is coming home to be absolutely true.

“And it’s the lack of experience that seems to be pointing at this. And that Amorim seems to be one of those big ones that they’re going to end up paying for big style.”

Former Man United star could land managerial vacancy

Interim boss Darren Fletcher got off to a winless start as Man United were held to a 2-2 draw at Burnley in the Premier League.

The club have begun their search for a caretaker boss to take charge of the team until the end of the season.

Michael Carrick is a leading contender to take the Man United job, and he has had a previous spell in charge as a caretaker manager in 2021.
