‘It’s big’ – Liverpool’s owners will be ‘pointing fingers’ after new financial reveal

Liverpool manager Arne Slot could face greater pressure by the club’s hierarchy following an off-pitch revelation.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Liverpool’s latest financial reveal by Deloitte.

Deloitte’s 2026 Money League revealed Liverpool’s turnover increased from £613million in 2023-24 to £702m last season.

The impressive financial figures were partly down to Liverpool winning the Premier League title last season, and their continued participation in the Champions League.

Arne Slot could be ‘gone quickly’ amid strong financial figures

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the figures puts more pressure on Slot to succeed.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club may be wanting more return for their investment.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a lot of money. It’s a big increase, and it’s showing that a lot of the Liverpool fans have been talking about, you know, look at Chelsea and Man City spending money and winning titles. Well, Liverpool have not done it cheap.

“They have also spent the money as well. Now, they’re not getting the return on that money at the moment. And that’s where the fingers are going to be pointed internally as to why not.

“I mean I’ve spoken very highly and given them a lot of credit for their data-driven situation and the way they’ve handled things before and Michael Edwards etc. but now I’m sure there’s a lot of internal hand-wringing as to what’s been going on with that sort of investment.

“Fenway in particular will be looking at that investment and say, look, you know, we’re giving you the resources. Why aren’t we there? And this just plays into what we just discussed about Arne Slot, saying that, yes, he’s got a short-term situation, but he’s got to turn around quickly or else he could be gone quickly, because there’s no argument he’s been given the resources.”

Liverpool reveal Arne Slot stance

Champions League revenue is a huge financial benefit to Liverpool, and Slot has been told he must qualify for the competition to keep his job beyond this season.

Liverpool want to keep Slot as manager until the end of the campaign, with the club still just two points off the top four.

Fans are beginning to turn on Slot, who has not won any of his last five Premier League matches, with the Dutchman still under pressure to improve results.
