‘It’s bonkers’ – Tottenham could spend ‘£200m’ on two last-gasp deals

Tottenham could have to make a £200million commitment if they were to agree two new signings before the transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday (1 September).

Xavi Simons joined Tottenham over the past few days as Thomas Frank continues to strengthen his attacking options.

The Netherlands international, who was heavily linked with Chelsea, has made the move to north London in a £52million deal from RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have agreed to sign Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan deal from PSG.

The France international spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, where he registered 10 goals and three assists in 22 appearances.

Tottenham looking to do ‘big business’ in late-window swoop

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Mohammed Kudus has been Tottenham’s most expensive signing of the window, having secured a £55million deal with West Ham for his signature.

Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai have also joined Spurs on permanent deals, taking their overall spending to more than £180million, with Joao Palhinha joining on loan from Bayern Munich.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I don’t know what it is about this season, but there are a number of clubs still looking to do big business.

“Can Spurs find two players? Can Spurs scramble around to spend £100million and commit themselves to the same again in wages maybe? I don’t know.

“It’s not far off £100million because if you’ve got two five-year contracts at £200million a week, £10million a year, two of them, that is a £100million commitment on wages as well.

“So, you’re talking about teams scrambling around to spend £200million of commitment over those five years.

“It’s just bonkers in the last 24 hours of the window, but that’s football.”
