‘It’s criminal’ – Pundit cannot believe what he saw in Preston North End vs Blackburn Rovers

Preston North End’s 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship was an end-to-end thriller at Deepdale.

Lewis Miller opened the scoring from a corner before Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine evened up the scoring just before half-time, with just 80 seconds between the two goals.

Todd Cantwell was missing through injury once again for Rovers, meaning Ryoya Morishita needed to be at his very best, and he was as he grabbed the assist for Andri Gudjohnsen’s eventual winner.

The victory took Valerian Ismael’s side nine points clear of the relegation zone, with Preston condemned to their fourth league defeat of the season, and the game was not without its negative moments.

Valentin Ismael to fume with Blackburn Rovers stars over Preston equaliser

While it was an exciting game for the neutral fans, Ismael was likely to have been furious with his players right after taking the lead, allowing Preston to hit back almost instantly at their home stadium.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (21 November), pundit David Edwards, who was on co-commentary duties, said: “It’s criminal from Blackburn. It really is. But joy for Preston. The disappointment on Valerian Ismael’s face…

“Alfie Devine took his time; that was the important thing. He didn’t rush it. He waits. Body after body diving,” as the Spurs loanee fired home a timely equaliser in the first half.

Luckily for Rovers, they had the last laugh at Deepdale, thanks to a Gudjohnsen goal just after the hour mark, but it was far from a simple game for either side in the Championship.

Coventry City flying at the top of the Championship

With Rob Edwards leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves, Coventry City are miles ahead in the race for automatic promotion and the Championship title.

After 15 matches, the Sky Blues have 34 points, have scored 40 goals and have conceded just 13, with Frank Lampard taking plenty of plaudits during what has been a sensational season so far.

Lampard has been linked with a Coventry exit, with his team in fine form at the top of the Championship, but it seems as though teams like Preston will be fighting for play-off spots this season.

The Lilywhites remain fourth in the table, but if current form means anything, it might not be too long until Blackburn close the gap on them further.
