‘It’s enormous money’ – Ederson would quit Man City as likely destination revealed

Ederson would be open to quitting Manchester City this summer as his most likely destination has been revealed.

The Brazil international has spent eight successful years with Man City since signing from Benfica for £35million in 2017.

The 31-year-old, who is out of contract in June 2026, kept 13 clean sheets in 40 appearances last season.

Ederson has been linked with a Man City exit on several occasions over the past year, with Saudi Pro League clubs believed to be interested in acquiring his services.

French newspaper L’Equipe reported on 18 July Galatasaray have offered £2.6million to sign Ederson this summer.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Turkish champions could afford to sign the shot-stopper after agreeing to pay Leroy Sane an “enormous” salary this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 22 July Man City were set to open talks about signing James Trafford from Burnley as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

The Athletic reported on 25 July a £27million deal has now been agreed to bring the 22-year-old back to the Etihad Stadium.

The news outlet added Ederson is expected to remain with Pep Guardiola’s side, but backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is set to leave this summer.

Ederson could accept Saudi offer after Man City exit latest

Borson insisted Ederson’s most likely destination would be Saudi Arabia if the situation changes and he were to leave Man City over the coming weeks.

He told Football Insider: “Galatasaray have not made a bid, so I don’t think that story was true.

“Certainly, it’s not going to be effectively a free transfer if they sign him. I don’t think City would be interested in that deal, but I think it’s clear that City would sell Ederson, and I think Ederson would leave. I think that’s pretty clear.

“Galatasaray can afford it in that they’ve raised a load of money, they’re spending very big this summer. They do have a tax break in Turkey, which is not completely clear how it works actually.

“I’ve done a bit of work on that. It’s not completely clear as to whether it’s as beneficial to the players as has been reported by some players.

“I have had people from Turkey tell me that the understanding of it in the UK is wrong and that the tax break is not quite as attractive as is made out. But clearly, they can pay very big salaries.

“If you look at what they paid Sane, he’s paid €9million (£7.8million) net, plus €3million (£2.6million) bonuses, so up to €12million (£10.5million) net. That’s the equivalent of let’s say £22million pounds, so £400,000 a week. It’s enormous money.

“I think Galatasaray could do the deal, whether they will meet City’s expectations on value, I don’t know.

“I think probably Saudi Arabia remains the most likely destination for Ederson if he’s to move.”
