It’s happening – Exclusive: Spurs tipped to sign 28-yr-old after Mourinho phone call
Paul Robinson has tipped Tottenham to sign Thomas Meunier this summer and insisted it is a position that Jose Mourinho will have to address in the transfer market.
The former White Hart Lane shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 28-year-old is a player Mourinho “admires” and would enhance the squad.
L’Equipe claim the Spurs manager has held a phone call with the PSG right-back and convinced him to move to north London this summer.
Meunier will be available on a free transfer with his contract expiring at Le Parc des Princes on June 30 after a four-year spell in Paris.
The Belgium international has made 27 appearances this season, helping PSG open up a 12 point lead at the top of Ligue 1.
When asked by Football Insider if Meunier would represent a step up on the current right-back options at Spurs, Robinson said: “Serge Aurier has had an indifferent season. He has been exposed at times and been left wanting.
“Meunier has been linked with Spurs for a while now and I think he is a player that Jose admires.
“It will be a position that they are looking at as well. They have leaked too many goals. A lot of goals have come down that right-hand side.
“Tanganga has been utilised there a lot. They will certainly be looking at reinforcements if not a replacement and I think Thomas Meunier would be a very, very good option.”
Spurs, currently 9th in the Premier League, have conceded the most goals (40) of any top 10 side this season.
Aurier, 27, was forced to apologise after he posted a video on social media of he and Moussa Sissoko training together in a clear breach of UK social distancing guidelines.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that defender has rejected a new deal and looks set for a summer exit.
