‘It’s hopeless and will not work’ – Crystal Palace argument has already been dismissed

Crystal Palace’s argument around Uefa’s rule change is “hopeless” as they look to be reinstated into the Europa League.

Uefa has expelled Palace from the second-tier European competition after ruling co-owner John Textor breaches its multi-club ownership rules.

The American billionaire owns a stake in Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League, with Uefa’s rules prohibiting clubs controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same European competition.

Palace are now set to play in the Conference League next season, while Nottingham Forest have been promoted into the Europa League.

Speaking to Sky Sports on 12 July, chairman Steve Parish revealed the club failed to see multiple emails from Uefa of a new deadline for multi-club owners to place their shares into a blind trust after they were sent to a general email address.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he would be “surprised” if Palace put forward their argument around the dates to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Palace are appealing the decision to CAS following their removal from the Europa League.

The international body, which is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, settles sports-related disputes through arbitration and mediation.

It’s currently unclear whether CAS would overturn any decision against Palace after Drogheda United’s appeal against their dismissal from the Conference League was rejected last month.

Crystal Palace told to avoid ‘surprising’ argument

Borson insisted CAS has already previously dismissed one of Palace’s arguments.

He told Football Insider: “It’s very hard to say whether they will prevail or not.

“First of all, the argument around the dates and the fact that they changed this rule to having to get Uefa comfortable by 1 March, whereas it used to be 3 June.

“The argument that is in some way unfair or was not communicated to the clubs is an argument that is hopeless and will not work, and it’s already been dismissed now twice by CAS as being an irrelevant argument.

“To be honest, I’d be surprised if Palace even bothered running that as one of their principle arguments.”

Crystal Palace accept Ola-Adebomi offer

In terms of an exit at Selhurst Park, Football Insider revealed on 21 July Palace have accepted a bid for Ademola Ola-Adebomi from WSG Tirol.

Oliver Glasner’s side have given the 21-year-old striker the green light to hold talks with the Austrian first division club.

Ola-Adebomi registered 12 goals in 13 Premier League 2 games in the second half of last season after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at SK Beveren.
