'It's Ridiculous' - Exclusive: Bruce can't believe how good West Brom player is
West Brom playmaker Matheus Pereira is a “cut above the rest of the Championship” and his capture for a potential £8.5million has been a “ridiculous” snip, according to Alex Bruce.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the just-retired defender, 35, has been hugely impressed by the impact the Brazilian has made for Slaven Bilic’s side this season.
Pereira, 23, has made 32 Championship appearances for West Brom this term, scoring six goals and supplying a remarkable 16 assists.
The Championship leaders are obliged to convert the attacker’s season-long loan from Sporting into a permanent deal for £8.5million once he’s played 45 minutes of 30 matches.
Bruce is in no doubt about the effectiveness of a player he rates highly.
“It is a bargain, especially when you look in today’s market for the prices that people are paying,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“It’s ridiculous, £8.5million or whatever is a bargain nowadays. If he goes on
and they get promotion, which I think they will do, I think they’ll run away with the league, I have to be honest, he’s be a major plus.
“He looks a cut above the rest of the Championship. He’s obviously a good player and when you put stats like that on the table as well, he’s been a huge influence in creating goals.”
Pereira did not figure for West Brom in their FA Cup 3-2 defeat last night to Newcastle United, managed by Bruce’s father Steve.
In other West Brom news, one Baggies star has blown Michael Brown away with his “unplayable” performances.
