Man City man is surely set for promotion after shattering Anthony Gordon update
Thomas Tuchel is preparing to name his England squad but may have to leave out Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
During Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club in the Champions League, Anthony Gordon was substituted with a hip injury in the first half, the same reason he was brought off at half-time against West Ham United on Sunday.
Eddie Howe confirmed Gordon’s injury in his post-match press conference, and it could rule him out of Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.
Gordon was electric during the last international break by scoring in England’s 5-0 hammering of Latvia, but with the 24-year-old now a doubt ahead of Friday’s announcement, it could open the door for someone else.

Thomas Tuchel must select Phil Foden in his England squad
When the German selected his last team in October, many felt Jack Grealish should have been selected for England after starring for Everton.
But since then, the 30-year-old has failed to score or assist against Tottenham and Sunderland, doing himself no favours in his bid to get noticed.
Meanwhile, Phil Foden has hit form at the right time, assisting in Man City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth before scoring a wonderful brace in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
Foden, who has missed out on Tuchel’s last two squad announcements, easily deserves a return to the fold, especially with the update on Gordon.
The 25-year-old is a special player who is capable of producing magic in the final third, yet he’s never discovered his best form for England.
Perhaps under Tuchel, the City playmaker can improve on his record of four goals and nine assists in 45 appearances for the Three Lions.

Foden needs to play as a number 10 for England
Foden is at his best when he’s deployed as a number 10 with license to float across the front line and pick up those dangerous pockets of space.
But with the amount of incredible talent available in those positions, including Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer, Gareth Southgate often shoehorned him into a role on the wing.
| Phil Foden’s record playing as… | Matches | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attacking Midfield | 105 | 45 | 33 |
| Left Winger | 76 | 26 | 18 |
| Right Winger | 57 | 21 | 11 |
| Central Midfield | 47 | 11 | 7 |
Though, as seen by his record as a central attacking midfielder, Foden is wasted as a winger and needs to used as a number 10 for club and country.
