Ivan Toney: Arsenal told to hijack Newcastle move as ‘crazy’ claim issued – pundit

Arsenal should hijack Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Ivan Toney, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Arsenal need to sign “two top strikers” this summer and Toney would not cost “crazy” money.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Wednesday (20 April) that Brentford will demand at least £30million for the 26-year-old this summer.

The striker, who has 12 Premier League goals this season, is attracting interest from Brighton & Hove Albion and former club Newcastle.

Arsenal’s two senior strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer and Agbonlahor has tipped them to move for Toney.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I’d get rid of Lacazette.

“If I was Arsenal I’d then bring in two top strikers in the summer, 100 per cent. They should look at someone like Toney.

“He’s proven he’s Premier League quality this season, you won’t have to pay ridiculous wages because he’s not going to be on crazy wages at the moment. It’s not going to be a crazy transfer fee.

“He’ll guarantee you hold up play, work rate, scoring goals. It’s a signing that a lot of teams in the Premier League will look at.”

Toney is under contract in west London until the summer of 2025 after penning a five-year deal when he completed a move from Peterborough in 2020.

He has scored 47 times and chipped in with 15 assists in 84 games across all competitions for Brentford since then.
