Ivan Toney hit backs at controversy over Saudi move with cryptic Instagram post

Ivan Toney has taken to social media to hit back at critics following his move from Brentford to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.

The 28-year-old striker secured a £33.6million transfer to the Saudi club from the Premier League outfit in the dying moments of transfer deadline day.

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal were all reportedly interested in signing the England international, but as a move failed to materialise, Brentford opted to sell Toney now rather than lose him for free in 2025.

Al Ahli were also in talks with Napoli star Victor Osimhen, having a £67million offer accepted by the Italian side, but failed to agree on personal terms.

The club then opted to sign Toney and Osimhen has since joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on loan for the rest of the season.

Ivan Toney ‘doesn’t care’ what people have to say about Saudi Arabia move

Toney will pocket a whopping £84million if he sees out his four-year contract at the Saudi club, a 1000 per cent increase on his wages at Brentford.

On Tuesday Toney took to Instagram to share a cryptic video that seems to tell critics that he “doesn’t care” about their opinions on his move.

In the video, Colorado Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders says, “Look at me. What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me? Your opinion of me is not the opinion I have of myself.

“You ain’t make me, so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me so you can’t kill me.

“God established me. I’m not even playing the game, and you’ve got an opinion of me.

Al Ahli currently sit eighth in the Saudi Pro League table with one victory and one defeat in their opening two games of the new season.

Managed by German coach Matthias Jaissle, Toney is now set to join up with ex-Premier League stars Riyah Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Edouard Mendy.

Toney could be set to make his debut against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in the club’s first game back from the international break.
