Ivan Toney tipped to fire Newcastle United to Europe after £30m reveal – pundit

Ivan Toney is good enough to lead Newcastle United to Europe over the next few years.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toon’s transfer plans.

This site revealed this week (20 April) that the Bees will demand at least £30million for Toney this summer amid growing interest.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Newcastle and Brighton are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the 26-year-old striker.

The Magpies have struggled in front of goal this season, with Callum Wilson, who has been injured since December, still the club’s top scorer this season.

Kenny claims Toney is good enough to be Newcastle’s main man for the next few years.

“Toney is proven at this level, that’s for sure,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He also doesn’t have any injury issues which is what has blighted Callum Wilson.

“I think he’s only going to get better as well. He will get more chances at Newcastle so, to me, that’s more goals.

“Newcastle want to be up there, challenging for Europe. Is Toney the man to score the goals to get them there?

“Maybe he is, I think he could do that. That’s what they are looking for, it’s the next level in their development.

“It would be a cracking signing in my opinion.”

Toney is contracted to Brentford until 2025.

The striker failed to score in just four senior appearances during his previous spell at St James’ Park.
