‘I’ve heard whispers’ – Man United could agree bargain deal and sign their own Max Dowman

Manchester United have been tipped to bring in their own version of Arsenal superstar Max Dowman for a cut-price.

Dowman made his full debut for the Gunners last week, as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Brighton 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

The 15-year-old then made his first Champions League appearance on Tuesday (4 November), coming off the bench as Arsenal cruised to a 3-0 win over Slavia Prague.

Now, Man United could be set to sign a teenage sensation of their own, although they will face competition to land the youngster.

Man United join race for 16-year-old

Last week (2 November), Football Insider revealed that Man United had joined the race to sign Jeremy Monga from Leicester City.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Ruben Amorim’s side will be battling the likes of Chelsea for the 16-year-old.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Man United could be able to sign Monga for as little as £2million.

Wyness added that the Leicester winger needs to be around a group of high-performing players already, despite only being 16.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He is a talent, there’s no doubt. I’ve heard whispers about him around the circuit for a long time now. I think Leicester are going to try and do all they possibly can to keep him, but I don’t think it’ll be enough.

“I think he will go because that sort of quality talent at that age needs to be in a much higher-performing group of players. We’re seeing players like Max Dowman down at Arsenal who are actually getting game time. Even at 16, you’re starting to get too old sometimes when you’re seeing 15-year-olds on the pitch now.

“I’m hearing that it’s going to be around only about £2m to get him, so I do expect a move to go through. It could be Chelsea or Man United. There’s a lot of talk about United, but I don’t know, we’ll see if he believes that Amorim is the right manager to bring him forward.”
