‘I’ve spoken to some people at Newcastle’ – Keith Wyness drops Eddie Howe sack verdict
Eddie Howe is coming under a bit of pressure at Newcastle United following their poor start to the season.
On Sunday (9 November), Newcastle were beaten 3-1 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, dropping the Magpies down to 14th in the table.
They have now lost four of their last six Premier League games and are only two points clear of the relegation zone.
Newcastle have been particularly poor away from home this season, and are yet to win in the league on their travels.

Eddie Howe has credit in the bank
There has been talk around Howe’s future at Newcastle after the defeat to Brentford, with some suggestions that he is under sack pressure.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that it is too early to start talking about dismissing the Englishman.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Howe still has a lot of credit in the bank at St James’ Park.
Wyness added that he has spoken to people at Newcastle, and the 47-year-old is safe for now.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it would be way too early for them to consider his position. I think Eddie’s still got a lot of miles in the bank and credit in the bank that he can rest on at the moment.
“I don’t think there’s any unrest from the fans about that. I think there’s probably more unrest within the squad themselves. They haven’t clicked in the Premier League, yet they still managed to do it quite well in Europe. So there’s no major dissatisfaction yet.
“I think he’s got a lot of time. If he doesn’t qualify for Europe this season, that’s when I think the rumours will start during the summer. But again, I would expect them to strengthen and keep going.
“Eddie’s got credit in the bank, and I don’t think there’ll be a problem. I spoke to some people at Newcastle and I think he’s safe enough right now.”
Newcastle eye Everton midfielder
Meanwhile, Newcastle are keeping tabs on Everton midfielder James Garner ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old’s outstanding performances this season have seen David Moyes back him for a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Newcastle scouts have been making regular checks on Garner, whose contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium expires next summer.
Everton are keen to keep hold of the former Manchester United youngster though and are expected to offer him a new deal.
