Iwobi set for Everton axe after confirmed news – pundit

Alex Iwobi will be axed from the Everton starting XI as soon as Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison are match fit.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Iwobi’s recent performances for Everton.

The winger has started three of Everton’s last four Premier League games, including their loss to West Ham at Goodison Park last weekend.

He missed a golden opportunity in the first half to put his side ahead and was replaced by Anthony Gordon with just over 10 minutes to go.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo after the game, Rafa Benitez insisted the attacker still has more to give.

Everton’s Twitter account revealed yesterday (October 21) that Richarlison is back in full training and Agbonlahor has claimed that means it is only a matter of time before Iwobi is dropped.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Iwobi is going to be Iwobi.

“He’s always been that player from when he was at Arsenal. You look at Iwobi one day and he’s the best player on the pitch. The next game he’ll be the worst player.

“Iwobi is always going to be like that. He’s not going to be one that gets a run of starts in the team.

“Arsenal are happy they sold him for the money that they did.

“At Everton, when everybody’s fit, he’ll be nowhere near that starting team. He’s only playing now because of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injuries.

“He’s always going to be up and down as a player.”

Iwobi was signed for Everton from Arsenal for a deal worth up to £34million by Marco Silva in the summer of 2019.

The Nigeria international’s 75 games for the Toffees have yielded five goals and five assists.
