Jack Butland backed to be Rangers star for years to come after latest -Campbell

Jack Butland can be the Rangers number one for many years to come if he moves to Ibrox this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Everton and Arsenal striker claimed Butland may consider a move to Rangers if he is not going to be the first choice stopper at Crystal Palace.

The Sun reported last week (28 May) that Rangers are monitoring the 29-year-old with his Selhurst Park future up in the air.

He has been in and out of the side since his move from Stoke City in January 2021 but started three of the final four games of the 2021-22 season.

Football Insider reported last week (27 May) that Palace have signed Sam Johnstone on a free transfer from West Brom.

“Jack Butland has been starting for Crystal Palace,” Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“He went for a Championship team in Stoke, went to Crystal Palace and waited his turn. Now, he’s the number one goalkeeper as far as I’m concerned.

“At the moment he’s starting, that’s all I can say. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. He’s starting the games and they finished the season well.

“His hat is in the ring to be number one at Crystal Palace.

“He was in the England squad so maybe his career hasn’t gone as he would have liked. But now he’s in the Premier League and has been starting games.

“He’s still young for a goalkeeper. When outfield players are old, goalkeepers are just getting seasoned.

“Could I see him going to Rangers? I can’t see it.

“If it happened it wouldn’t surprise because if he’s not going to be the number one at Crystal Palace and he’s going to be the number one at Rangers then I get it.

“Allan McGregor is 40, Rangers can’t be having a 40-year-old as number one, come on.”

In other news, Rangers have signed up their own Luka Modric after confirmed news.
