Jack Grealish could be handed new Man City role after journalist’s transfer update – pundit
Paul Robinson suspects Man City manager Pep Guardiola may trial Jack Grealish in a new midfield role if Bernardo Silva leaves the club this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Grealish, 26, could thrive in a deeper position.
Grealish has started on the left-hand side in Man City’s first two games of the 2022-23 campaign.
The England international has on occasion played in a central attacking-midfield role during his career.
As quoted by the BBC (6 August), Guardiola revealed he is keen to keep Bernardo Silva at the club beyond the transfer deadline.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Pete Jenson (3 August), Barcelona will launch a bid for the Portugal international should Frenkie de Jong leave the Nou Camp.
When asked by Football Insider if Grealish could step into Bernardo Silva’s role at the Etihad, Robinson said: “This is a big season for him.
“He is a marquee signing. A player Man City have splashed huge money on.
“He is not the main feature like he was at Aston Villa. If he played well Villa played well.
“Last season there was excuses made for him. He has had to learn as part of a system at City.

“If Bernardo Silva was to leave, Grealish could drop into that role.
“He could play in an advanced midfield position against certain teams with Rodri the one holding. That could be an option.”
