Jack Grealish ‘future at Man City under Pep Guardiola emerges’

Pep Guardiola retains faith in Jack Grealish amid major struggles at Man City, it has been reported by The Daily Telegraph.

The 29-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract at The Etihad at the end of this season, and has started just nine games in all competitions during the current campaign.

Some pundits have already questioned Guardiola’s decision not to use the England international more in recent times, although it appears he still has a part to play for the current Premier League champions.

The Man City manager has been playing Grealish more centrally and reportedly sees him as part of the operation moving forward.

That comes amid apparent uncertainty about the future of other central midfield options such as Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo, and disappointment in the performances of Matheus Nunes.

By contrast, Guardiola is also said to have faith in other attacking options such as Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb, who is still to return from a long injury lay-off, but another winger could be targeted.

There is no denying that there needs to be an overhaul of an ageing squad at the Etihad Stadium, which has been highlighted by the dismal run of form the club are on.

Guardiola will however need to keep some experienced figure around to provide continuity. At 29-years-old, Grealish is one of the younger ones among that contingent.

He could therefore be a suitable option for Man City to keep, and a move to central midfield may help the Englishman too.

While it seems there is plenty of competition for a place for him on the left-wing, there are more gaps opening up in the centre of the park.

A switch to that role could therefore give him the opportunity to get back to starting more regularly for the Premier League champions, and is considered to be what the ex-Aston Villa captain wants.

Guardiola himself has of course also been known to try the unexpected during his time in charge of Man City to get the most out of his side.

Given the scrutiny he is under after one win in ten, it might not be a surprise if he does that again with a switch such as this.
