‘Jack Grealish heading for imminent Man City exit’ – Aston Villa top source

Man City star Jack Grealish has caused controversy for being snapped exiting a nightclub in Newcastle on Sunday (2 March) – a day after playing 90 minutes in the FA Cup win over Plymouth.

City supporters on social media have branded the 29-year-old a “disgrace” after pictures emerged of his night out in the north east.

Grealish, who famously celebrated the club’s treble-winning season with a boozy session on the open top bus, has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola this term.

He has managed just two goals and five assists in 26 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign – just three-and-a-half-years after costing £100million.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has hit back at criticism of Grealish, who made his senior Villa debut in 2014.

Grealish is ‘still world class’ – Man City have stifled him

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he sees a move away for the England international in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Man City started a rebuild in the January transfer window by shipping out long-serving defender Kyle Walker and making four new signings.

Wyness insisted Grealish is still “world-class” and could get a “new lease of life” by moving elsewhere.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “When I was chief executive at Villa, we had times where we had to monitor his behaviour.

“I always found him to be a sincerely great kid, but I say kid – he’s now 29, and that’s the one thing that would worry me about these stories.

“It’s his day off, no-one was harmed – he can do what he wants.

“He’s had a tough year and there’s no harm in Jack whatsoever. He’s just lively and he has to blow off steam sometimes.

“I tend to think he’ll be okay – but I do see a move away from City this summer for Jack.

“That would give him a new lease of life if he can go to another club with a fresh start.

“I think his quality has been stifled by City. I’ve seen him with free reign at Villa and he was amazing to watch.

“He’s a world-class talent, I think.

“Jack is nowhere near the naughtiness of George Best, he’s nowhere near a Gazza. He’s just been out with his mates, it’s not happening every day. Let’s just move on.”

Man City
Grealish joined Man City in 2021 for a widely-reported £100million.

Ederson could join Man City clear-out

One player who could join City’s clear-out is Ederson, with Football Insider revealing (3 March) the goalkeeper has a “strong possibility” of joining a Saudi Pro League club.

Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad have entered the race for his signature in the off-season.

Ederson will be out of contract in June 2026 – meaning the this summer could be City’s last chance to cash in.
