Jack Grealish in line for shock new role at Man City – sources
Jack Grealish could be set for a surprising new role at Man City moving forward, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Pep Guardiola could continue to implement Grealish in a central role as he continues to try and change City’s fortunes.
The England international had partnered Ilkay Gundogan in central midfield for City’s 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest, and Grealish performed well in the role.
It is believed that Guardiola is now looking to come up with options to get his team out of their recent slump, and a significant positional change for Grealish could be the answer.
It would be a shocking change for the 29-year-old to start playing from a deeper midfield role regularly, as he’s spent his entire career in more attacking areas such as out wide.
However, his ability to carry the ball could lead to Grealish driving the team forward from deeper positions to then use his attacking ability alongside the rest of the frontline.
Jack Grealish will undergo a major change at Man City
City have struggled in central midfield this season due to Rodri being sidelined for the entire campaign in a devastating injury blow.
Oscar Bobb and Mateo Kovacic have also suffered injuries which have stretched Guardiola’s options even further, leading him to trying Grealish in the role.
Guardiola has often come up with unconventional choices when it comes to player positions, and this could be the latest example.

City will face Crystal Palace on Saturday (7 December) in the Premier League before a trip to face Juventus on Wednesday (11 December) in the Champions League.
It remains to be seen whether or not Guardiola will implement Grealish in the central role once again.
